Katanga: Sodifor, a new company to exploit copper deposits of Lonshi and Kishiba   Wednesday 1st September 2010         

Those responsible for Sodimico announce the creation of a new company to exploit deposits of Lonshi and Kishiba in Sakanya territory at Katanga. The new company, Sodifor, is the result of the merger of the Hong Kong-based Fortune and Sodimico.

This merger marks a new stage in the proceedings between the mining firm First Quantum Minerals (via their subsidiaries Frontier Sprl and Comisa) to Sodimico about deposits Lonshi and Kishiba.

At a meeting held Monday, August 30, the deputy Director General of the Sodimico announced to former officers of First Quantum that they will go in the new company. They will be supported in the month of September and will be considered as new recruits and sign new contracts.

The Mining Cadastre has notified last week officials of the withdrawal of First Quantum shares of Frontier Mining Sprl and Comisa.

Decision that involves the termination of any operation on deposits quarreled accordance with the ruling of the Supreme Court of Justice delivered in the month of May. Pursuant to this notification, officials Frontier Comisa have sealed their offices, suspending all their activities.

Those responsible for Sodimico plan to go to Sakanya where plants are installed Comisa and Frontier to explore ways to use their facilities after negotiations with these companies.

"We are already talking with them because [officials Frontier and Comisa] the record in question does not concern only the deposit, there are other disputes. We’ll get together in time, "said Chief Deputy of Sodimico.
